wage theft

american employers steal 3 times the amount of money from their employees that is lost due to shoplifting, bank robberies, computer hacks, etc., put together.

this theft is often in the form of hours worked without pay, unpaid overtime, unpaid benefits, additional job duties added without additional pay during layoffs, etc.

most employees never recover these stolen wages. even for those that eventually do, it can take years.

national restaurant association wrote minimum wage petition

the national restaurant association wrote and distributed a petition against raising the minimum wage under the name of vernon smith, an economics professor who won the nobel prize, then circulated it to 500 other economists right before congress took up the matter.

and, of course, they conveniently failed to tell anyone that they were involved.
