i don't for a moment believe that this article was written by a member of congress, but the points that the author makes are valid. where we differ is the last bit: in a time when everyone in government - regardless of party - is for sale, being a special interest flunky simply pays too well for us to compete against. that leaves a couple of paths:
1) the folks that currently bankroll the entertainment extravaganza that we call washington get old and die off, to be replaced by new faces that have different ideas regarding what constitutes acceptable political engagement.
2) the next world war - likely with china - causes such catastrophic loss of life and/or assets that our government breaks down completely.
3) things become so gridlocked that government stands directly in the way of citizens receiving a majority of the benefits that government exists to provide (ie, protection from internal and external enemies, a competitive public education, secure retirement, a living wage, protection from discrimination, affordable utilities, access to a safe and secure supply of water, affordable food, and the security of our assets), beginning with protests and eventually leading to open revolt.
4) people aren't buying enough hats.
